The video explains the effect of saving electricity, using statistics and numbers, along with stars and light points to create a romantic atmosphere, to make the ideas become more aesthetical and educational.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This is a project taking advantage of the “unique” hardware, which took place in Jan 2017. After 3 week’s research and operation, I finished this specially made motion graphic video displayed on 6 connected screens, which makes a huge panoramically clip of 11520*1080 resolution. It explains the effect of saving electricity, using statistics and numbers, along with stars and light points to create atmosphere, to make ideas more visual and educational.

The “Earth Hour” is not a new statement. I participated in this event for 3 years, shutting off the laptop and light, and went out for a walk with friends. It is a world-known project started by WWF, which is kind of interesting, even though the true effect of 1-hour light off is still unknown.

So I tried to explain the effect of Earth Hour, using numbers to highlight the importance of saving electricity.

RESEARCHES AND CONCEPT FORMS

The official website of “Earth Hour”, from which I got some background information and statistics of this event. The website is a great resource to get inspiration for what "Earth Hour" could benefit to human nature and educate society. It also shows the accurate statistics of the saved energy, which later turned into the data for the animation script.

I managed to have better use of the panorama display in the studio of my school, trying to create an imaginary and relaxed atmosphere. The environment is not always a serious topic, and I am trying to promote the concept in a more abstract and convincing way.

At the beginning, I planned to use the magic cube as the aspect to link different scenes. However, after consideration, I finally canceled the settlement of magic cube, to make the whole video more concentrated, on lights and movements, instead of interrupting elements.
